Discover Siam Brasserie

Tucked along 87 Lavender Hill, London SW11 5QL, United Kingdom, Siam Brasserie is one of those places that quietly wins you over. I first stopped by on a rainy Tuesday evening after a recommendation from a colleague who used to live nearby in Battersea. He described it as “proper Thai food without the tourist gloss,” and after several visits, I understand exactly what he meant.

The restaurant sits comfortably among the independent cafés and local shops of Lavender Hill. Step inside and you’re greeted by warm lighting, polished wooden tables, and the faint aroma of lemongrass and galangal drifting from the kitchen. It’s intimate but not cramped, and the staff welcome you like a regular-even if it’s your first visit. That kind of hospitality makes a difference, especially in London where dining can sometimes feel rushed.

The menu is where things really get interesting. Instead of watering down flavors, the kitchen leans into authenticity. Dishes like green curry, tom yum soup, and pad Thai appear, of course, but they’re prepared with a noticeable respect for traditional technique. On one visit, I ordered the massaman curry with slow-cooked beef. The meat was tender enough to cut with a spoon, and the sauce had that perfect balance of sweet, salty, and mildly spicy notes that Thai cuisine is known for. According to the Thai SELECT certification program-an initiative backed by Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce-true Thai cooking depends heavily on balance and fresh herbs. You can taste that philosophy here.

I’ve also tried their seafood dishes, particularly the steamed sea bass with lime and chilli. The fish was fresh, flaky, and vibrant with citrus heat. It reminded me of a study by the UK’s Food Standards Agency emphasizing the importance of proper sourcing and temperature control in seafood safety. Restaurants that get this right tend to deliver cleaner flavors and better texture, and Siam Brasserie clearly pays attention to those details.

Another standout is their vegetarian offering. Many diners assume Thai restaurants focus heavily on meat, yet here the tofu pad kra pao and vegetable red curry hold their own against any protein-based option. The use of Thai basil, kaffir lime leaves, and palm sugar creates layers of flavor that feel deliberate, not improvised. If you’re plant-based or simply cutting back on meat, the variety feels thoughtful rather than an afterthought.

Service deserves its own mention. On my third visit, I brought a group of friends with varying spice tolerances. The server patiently explained the heat levels and even suggested adjusting certain dishes. That flexibility reflects real expertise. Understanding capsaicin levels and how they interact with coconut milk or sugar isn’t just culinary instinct-it’s food science. By balancing fat and sweetness, the kitchen can tone down heat without stripping flavor.

In terms of hygiene and reliability, the restaurant maintains strong local reviews and consistent ratings across platforms. While online reviews should always be read critically, patterns matter. When multiple diners highlight freshness, generous portions, and attentive service, it usually signals operational consistency. From what I’ve seen, the kitchen runs efficiently, and dishes arrive promptly without feeling rushed.

Portion sizes are generous enough for sharing, which suits the communal style of Thai dining. If you’re unsure what to order, the staff are happy to recommend combinations-typically a curry, a stir-fry, jasmine rice, and perhaps a starter like chicken satay with peanut sauce. That balance mirrors traditional Thai meal structure, where contrasting textures and flavors sit side by side.

It’s worth noting that peak weekend evenings can get busy, so booking ahead is smart. While walk-ins are sometimes accommodated, availability isn’t guaranteed. Still, that steady stream of diners says a lot. In a city packed with dining options, places that endure usually do so because they deliver both quality and consistency.

Whether you’re exploring Lavender Hill for the first time or you’re a local searching for dependable Thai cuisine, this spot feels grounded and genuine. Between the carefully prepared menu, knowledgeable service, and inviting atmosphere, it’s easy to see why people return-not just for a meal, but for the experience of flavors done right.

  • THIS RESTAURANT IS AMAZING! The foods are reallllllllllly delicious and have verrrrry good prices. The restaurant owner is very friendly. If you like Asian food, this restaurant is really worth to go. The food here made my trip in London even better.

  • V lucky to have this excellent restaurant on my door step. The lunch menu is a selection of favourites and great value (recommend Tamarind Duck Noodles). The evening menu is extensive and available on Deliveroo etc etc. The papaya salad was fresh, crunchy, tangy and the right of heat and sweetness. I opted for Laksa (tho not Thai origin) was creatively presented, full of flavour, chicken, prawns and tofu. My only reason for the 3 stars is the decor could do with a little TLC, tho the warmth and service of the owner and his chef makes up for that.

  • Visiting from the states and stayed in the area for 2 days and was so glad to find this spot. I was missing Asian food and the way it was cooked was so good I ate lunch and dinner on the same day. My favorite is the basil and chili and tried chicken for lunch and beef for dinner. Also the tom yam soup is really good. Love the vibe here, nice way to end my short trip in London.

  • We ordered uber eats from this place. It was very good. Green Curry had a kick but not too spicy. Chicken satay and peanut sauce very good. Egg fried rice for $4.50 was cheap and you would probably want to order 2 of these to pair with the curry. Pad thai was good as well. Great meal for in hotel dining as we are too tired to go out.

  • Absolutely outstanding Thai food – a real find for us! Unlike many Thai spots in the UK that tone down their flavours and add so much coconut milk, Siam Brasserie serves food that’s boldly authentic and packed with the real taste of Thailand. The flavours are fresh, vibrant, and expertly balanced. I had the Pad Kra Pao , and it was bursting with holy basil, garlic, and chilli – exactly how it should be. The Som Tum (papaya salad) was spicy, tangy, and refreshing, just like the street versions in Bangkok. The jungle curry was just amazing! The service was warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere has a relaxed, elegant charm. It’s clear the chefs know their craft and aren’t afraid to deliver true Thai heat – a huge plus for anyone who appreciates proper Thai cooking. The Tom Yum soup had just the right amount of sourness and spice, and the prawns were perfectly cooked. Every dish felt like it had been carefully prepared. The whole seabass was perfectly cooked. If you're after an authentic Thai experience, this is the place. It's easily one of the best Thai meals I've had in the UK – I will absolutely be returning. Five stars for flavour, authenticity, and overall experience. Highly recommended for spice lovers and Thai food purists! The jelly beans with the bill were also a nice touch. It's easy to miss in Battersea, but once you find it, you'll be back!

  • All empty and we ask for more food. It so good Ask for special menu and they can make nearly everything for you same like you are in Thailand. Really recommend it. Don’t order a same boring curry, try something different and just ask them something not in the menu. You will love it
